When can we expect a button which would change the camera gimbal automatically when one has a Double Grid flight mission for optimization for 3D imagery. For example:
1st part of automated flight: 2D grid
2nd part of automated flight: auto orbit at height 50' AGL with -45°
3rd part of automated flight: Drone flies to 100' AGL and camera automatically tilts to -60° when making photos
At the moment, I had to make 3 separate mission for the same property. This would be a catalyst for efficiency and allow for faster 3D imagery/models.
That's an interesting idea!
How is the orbit from 2nd part should be made? Circle around the polygon with a center inside it? Or fly along the perimeter pointing inside it?
The 3rd part is not clear for me also ) Should a drone fly vertically in some specified locations or what?
For the second part, start with polygon functionality and lock camera gimbal along the perimeter to allow for enhanced 3D modeling when I stitch all my photos in WebODM. The polygon function is already implemented within the app and would be faster for your software team to create within beta since not need much command lines.
In regards to the third part, it would be similar as second part however, change the vertical altitude/height of the drone therefore it flies at consistent height along the perimeter. Also allow for the gimbal angle to remain fixed at the angle the user/pilot command. For example, I want to fly my drone at 130 feet AGL along the perimeter of polygon from one way point to the next and allow for me to have the camera angle fixed at 80° for until the entire building is flown around. After the drone flies around the perimeter 1 time, allow the pilot/user to give a command to increase or decrease the altitude again in the same mission and allow to change the camera angle. After one pass around the structure at 130 feet AGL at -80°, then next pass I can command to fly the drone at 100 feet AGL around the perimeter with camera angle at -60°. After I pass around the entire structure again, allow me to decrease the drone altitude to 80 feet AGL with camera angle at -45° around the entire perimeter. All these commands will be within the same mission to allow for enhanced 3D modeling of images when stitched in WebODM or other software.
I'd like to fly a beta model after the software team implements this idea. I have the Copterus App and downloaded TestFlight. Send me an email invite to fly this beta and I'll test it for your entire team and show the 2D orthomosaic map and 3D model of the images I created with Copterus App and the commands the software team made.
Does DJI have stitching software like Drone Deploy, Pix4D, or WebODM? I currently use WebODM since Pix4D and Drone Deploy are expensive.
I fly Mavic Air 2 by the way.
Thank you for the detailed explanation. That’s great idea, I’ll make it. But for this feature there will be more user interface code lines, than drone control lines ) I’ll let you know when this feature will be available in beta. DJI has something like image stitching software called DJI Terra.
@Copterus Team Oh yes!! I would be honored to fly your software and provide 3D models of what I create with my Mavic Air 2 after the new beta app is ready. By the way. You have an excellent idea to have a circle function after allowing the drone to change altitude within the same mission.I'll create many 3D models of cell towers and having a flight plans that allows for different altitudes in the same mission and allowing camera tilt would also be very beneficial.
